Manic cake week!!

It’s Sunday; I have survived!!
This time of the year the wedding business is always “crazy”, we expect that. But some weeks seem to evolve beyond “crazy”.

Tuesday: We knew it was very busy with wedding cakes etc however, one of my nephews was also getting married  in Ballybofey in Donegal and as well as being a guest at the wedding I was doing the cake; a day and a half out of my week!!  It was a lovely wedding, followed by much dancing to the early hours. Thanks for the invite Mark and Mallory we had a great time and all the best for the future. (Thanks for the kind comments about the cake.)

Wednesday PM, back at work until 8pm to catch up.

Thursday: Many months ago I had agreed to give a demonstration to the Belfast branch of the Sugarcraft guild. It was tonight!!!

Music themed cakeOne of the cakes we had to finish was very bespoke. The couple were both musicians, hence the theme of the cake was centred around a musical theme and a piano, only hope the couple like the finished product. The groom collected the cake; he was delighted (sigh of relief!).
Talk about “thinking on your feet”  while decorating the cakes I was jotting down notes as to what I was going to demonstrate to the “guild ladies”. The demonstration – chocolate themed (my favorite subject at the moment) went well I think. Tidied workshop and was home by 9.45 pm.

Friday: delivering and finishing this weeks weddings’

Saturday: 9am- My heart sank! – we’d slept in!
We had to deliver cakes to the Ramada and the Malone lodge hotel in Belfast, the Hilton in Templepatrick, a marquee in Coleraine and Millpark hotel in Donegal, just outside Ballybofey again, all by 2 pm!! Thankfully my husband Derek did the driving.

We were delivering to Millpark hotel was a huge chocolate fan cake, requiring the air-con to be on. Needless to say by the time we arrived in Donegal we were surprised how warm the outside temperature was. Some food and drink before the journey home.

Needless to say that night we were both “Knackered”, so a scrumptious tea of shredded wheat and coke for me, crisps and Guinness for Derek and then to bed!
Very busy week.

    Hi Jenny

I was wondering if you or do you know if anywhere in Northern Ireland that runs sugarcraft or beginners cake decorating classes (full-day or evening). They seem to be scarce in Northern Ireland. I live in Tyrone and am new to cake decorating so would like some guidance and inspiration! One of the local college run one in the Autumn but it may not run due to lack of numbers!

I would also like to know of places that sell baking and sugarcraft supplies and equipment in Northern Ireland. There a lot of mail-order websites but the postage seems to cost as much as the item itself.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Donna:)

      Hi Donna
Unfortunately i do not do classes I no longer have the time
Have you looked at Ella’s Barn in Caledon,Ella usually has a range of classes on the go
Likewise Ella has a brilliant stock of sugarcraft equipment
Aonther good source of equipment is Creative Cakes at Ballyhackamore on the Newtownards Rd in Belfast
